Jessica Kastoun

Jessica Kastoun is an accomplished Australian Lawyer, nationally accredited Mediator, and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. With a robust legal, policy, and dispute resolution background, Jessica has served in various capacities within Australian Government Departments, including a pivotal role in a Royal Commission. Her international experience includes engagements with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and as a Fellow of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC). 

 

Jessica holds a Bachelor of Laws with a Bachelor of International Studies with Honours from Macquarie University (2014). She furthered her expertise with a Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution in 2016 and qualified as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of NSW in March 2018, following her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law. 

 

Her extensive experience in advising government entities spans public law issues across Commonwealth and State agencies. Jessica has provided comprehensive legal services, including regulatory oversight, policy development, legislation, and dispute resolution. Currently, she serves as an in-house Government lawyer, recognized for her trusted and respected legal counsel. 

 

Jessica’s practice areas encompass Australian privacy law, civil disputes, administrative law, commercial law, family law, human rights law, immigration law, and veteran’s advocacy. Her international human rights work is highlighted by her tenure with the UNHCR and project engagements with UNAOC in peacebuilding and conflict prevention. 

 

Recently, Jessica was seconded to Services Australia, and previously, she was a Senior Legal Officer at the Department of Education. Her role as Legal Counsel for Lawyer on Demand included a secondment within the DoE’s Legal Services Directorate. Her executive-level experience includes the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, where she excelled in resolving privacy disputes. 

 

Jessica’s career also includes roles as a Senior Policy Officer with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, and various positions with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Attorney-General’s Department, Legal Aid NSW, and more. 

A member of the Law Society and the Mediation Institute, Jessica is also an accredited fitness professional and yoga instructor. In her free time, she teaches group fitness classes in Sydney, promoting mindful movement and wellness.
